Broccoli is a nutritious cool-season vegetable that produces compact, flavorful heads and side shoots. Suitable for kitchen gardens, beds, and large pots in Pakistan, these seeds are great for beginners who follow basic care.
How to Sow
Start seeds in trays or small pots indoors 6–8 weeks before the planned transplant date. Sow seeds about ¼ inch (6 mm) deep and keep the substrate evenly moist. Transplant seedlings to the garden when they have 4–6 true leaves and are about 10–15 cm tall; harden off seedlings for several days before planting out.
Sowing Temperature & Season
Ideal germination temperature: 18°C–24°C. Broccoli prefers cool growing temperatures for head formation (daytime ~15°C–22°C). In Pakistan, best sowing windows are late summer to early autumn (July–September) for a winter harvest, and late winter (January–February) in cooler regions for an early spring crop.
Soil & Care
Use fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter (garden soil + compost). Maintain soil pH around 6.0–7.0. Space plants 45–60 cm apart in rows 60–90 cm apart (or one plant per large pot). Provide full sun (4–6+ hours) but protect from extreme heat. Keep soil consistently moist, mulch to conserve moisture, and side-dress with compost or balanced fertilizer during active growth. Remove side shoots for bigger main heads or harvest side shoots after the main head.
Harvest
Main heads are typically ready 50–90 days after transplant depending on variety and climate. Harvest when heads are firm and compact before flower buds open; side shoots will continue to produce after the main harvest.
